Memories of Bubu, a year this month since his death. Thinking of him brings to mind Love Light Romania’s work with HIV/AIDS, a commitment of thirteen years that has culminated so far, both achievements and sadness. Remembering over all these years the struggle we have shared with those living with HIV, their fears, the final stage of the illness, the isolation.
In our area of Transylvania, living with HIV can often be a fight to stay well and healthy, inadequate health providers, doctors who fail to feel compassion and understanding. Lack of important blood tests, times when antiretroviral treatment is not available. Living in poverty where it is impossible to access a healthy diet and hygienic living conditions. With all these issues often we witness the health of our service users spiral downwards, sometimes rapid and sometimes over several years.
However there are HIV success stories within Love Light Romania. How at The Sanctuary a home is provided, in a safe and caring environment, which achieves to bring a happy and peaceful life to those infected with the virus. How young adults have left their life at The Sanctuary and achieved a healthy and productive life independently. How the respite program turns the lives of our service users around for the better.
Remembering Bubu and all those dear young people who gave up their struggle to AIDS, who passed and left us with memories. How their suffering and death is never in vain, because their lives touched Love Light Romania and therefore added strength to our work with HIV. We burn a candle to highlight your lives, as well bring light and hope to those you have left behind.
